Porsche have been synonomous with sports cars, speed and luxury for decades now, since 1948
in fact.
While their history is steeped in sports cars, they are now expanding into other markets such as
the Porsche Cayenne 4 wheel drive and the Porsche Panamera, their entry into the more consumer orientated 4 door
saloon market.
Similar to the Cayenne success, I anticipate that the Panamera will sell well to business people
who need more than a two seat sports car but still want the Porsche branding, style and comfort. The Panamera
will comfortably seat the average family while still allowing the usual eleganceof the Porsche family.
As I write this, the Cayenne is the most sold vehicle in the Porsche family even though many
thought that a Porsche 4 wheel drive would be a failure. Today it is the most profitable item in the
companies stable, and I expect that the Panamera will soon rise to near the head of the income stream for the
German company.
Watch what Matt Priors of Autocar UK has to say about this new Porsche
flavour. We'll look at the specs below.
As always, there is a range of Panamera options, starting with the standard Panamera and moving through
series 4, series S, series 4S and the Turbo. For more information re these models, refer to our
Car Maker Resources page for a direct link.
Environmentally Friendly
If we look at the Panamera Turbo, we find that Porsche has again delivered an environmentally friendly
vehicle, complete with technologies such as their Vario Cam Plus and Direct Fuel Injection.
By using an an air injection system, exhaust gas is cleaned ensuring lower emissions. The Panamera
also uses Porsches auto stop start system, meaning that when parked at lights, the engine turns off, and
automatically restarts when you take off. Imagine sitting in this pleasure of a car at the lights,
and you are the only one not emitting pollutants.
This combined with their unique stereo Lambda control that monitors each cylinder bank separatly means a
pretty green ride.
Tech Specs
The Panamera Turbo gives you a top speed of 303 km/h which should be enough to get you to the
store before it closes, driving on 8 cylinders. It's an active all wheel drive generating 368 KW (500 HP) with
a max torque Nm at RPM of 770 if you are using the Sport Chrono package.

The Panamera takes car technology to a whole new level. Another feature is the rear spoiler which
lays flat when the car is not at speed leaving a more aerodynamically pure form, and raises
automatically as the speed increases to keep air pressure on the back wheels. The below shots
show you the Panamera's spoiler in, and then fully out.
Above, you can see how the rear wing is integrated into the body under the rear window for better
aerodynamics at low speed.
You can see how the wing automatically engages when the Panamera picks up speed - The above photo is
the the rear spoiler fully extended.
